Sevier County Fire/Rescue in the Process of Hiring 12 New Full-Time Firefighters

Sevier County, Tennessee – Earlier this year in March, the Sevier County Government, under the new county-formed Sevier County Fire/Rescue, acquired the Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department. Now, Sevier County Fire/Rescue is currently in the process of hiring twelve (12) new full-time firefighters.

The applicants underwent agility tests at the Sevier County Fire Chief’s Association Training Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 26 and 27.  The next step in the hiring process is a written exam for the applicants.

The agility test is strategically designed to assess the applicant’s ability to perform the physical demands of the job, such as climbing ladders in full gear, carrying heavy equipment, and quickly navigating through confined spaces. The test also helps assess the applicant’s coordination, balance, and reaction time. These skills are essential for firefighters, who often work in hazardous and unpredictable environments.

“We are excited to be hiring new firefighters to serve our community,” said Sevier County Fire/Rescue Chief David Puckett. “We are looking for highly motivated and qualified individuals who are passionate about helping others.”

“I am excited to see the new firefighters join our team,” said Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters. “I am confident that they will serve our community with honor and courage.”

In addition to the new firefighters, Sevier County Fire/Rescue is also hiring for the positions of Fire Inspector and Permit Technician in the coming weeks and months. The addition of these new positions will help to staff the newly-formed Sevier County Fire/Rescue.
