Sevier County Accepting Nominations to Fill General Sessions Judge Vacancy

Sevier County, Tennessee (Thursday, June 13, 2024) – The Sevier County Legislative Body is seeking nominations to fill a vacancy in the General Sessions Court. The vacancy comes after Circuit Court Judge Rex Henry Ogle took an indefinite medical leave earlier this month, and Governor Bill Lee appointed current General Sessions Judge Jeff Rader to fill that seat.

The Sevier County Board of Commissioners will be accepting nominations at its Steering Committee Meeting on Thursday, June 20th, 2024 at 4:00 PM. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit a letter of intent, along with a resume and any other relevant documents, to the Sevier County Mayor's Office at 125 Court Avenue, Suite 201E Sevierville, TN by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024.

Nominations may also be submitted for consideration at the special-called Sevier County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 6:00 PM in Courtroom 306W. All nominations will be considered and voted upon at the meeting.

To be eligible for nomination, candidates must meet all qualifications as outlined in Tennessee Code Annotated §§ 16-15-201, 16-15-5005, Tennessee Constitution, Article VI, Section 4. Qualifications include, but are not limited to: 

  • Must be 30 years of age 
  • A resident of Sevier County for 1 year
  • Licensed to practice law in Tennessee
