Board of Commissioners Approves Resolution to Name and Dedicate County Facilities

Sevier County, Tennessee (June 27, 2024) – At their special-called meeting on Monday, June 24th, the Sevier County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a resolution to name the new Courts Building and other rooms inside the Courts Building in honor of distinguished individuals who have significantly contributed to the community.

The following facilities will be named and titled as:

  • New Courts Building: Rex Henry Ogle Courts Building
  • Circuit Courtroom: Gary Wade Courtroom
  • Circuit Courtroom: Helen Loveday Courtroom
  • General Sessions Clerks Office: Connie Holt General Sessions Clerks Office
  • Downtown Campus: Larry Waters County Government Complex

Judge Rex Henry Ogle expressed his gratitude, stating, "This is the greatest honor of my life. I'm a humble man, I never expected this. I'm eternally grateful and will never forget this honor. "

Andrew Holt, son of the late Connie Holt, said, "It’s a very nice surprise, humbling not just for me but for my family. I know my mom would be in tears and struggling for words. She put her heart into this place for decades and I know that she would be very proud. It’s an incredible honor."

Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters also shared his appreciation: "Thank you for this honor. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate the commission and the people of Sevier County. I will continue to serve to the best of my ability, which I have always done."

The Sevier County Mayor’s Office, in consultation with the Sevier County Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, will determine the appropriate design and placement of name indications and any other commemorative elements for these locations. Additionally, each individual will be honored with a corresponding resolution and a ceremony at a later date.

This resolution marks a significant step in recognizing the dedication and service of individuals who have made a lasting impact on Sevier County. The Board of Commissioners extends its gratitude to all involved in these projects and looks forward to celebrating their contributions with the community.
