SHERIFF RONALD L. SEALS took office on March 5, 2007 after being appointed as Sheriff by the Sevier County Commission upon the death of Sheriff Bruce R. Montgomery. Sheriff Seals has served as an officer with the Sheriff’s Office for 35 years and was officially elected sheriff in 2008 by the citizens of Sevier County.
Sevier County Sheriff’s Office opened its administrative offices after the renovation of the former Temple Building in 2002. The facility houses the following department functions:

Sevier County Sheriff’s operational structure consists of the following functions and officers:
*Administrative: Chief Deputy Deputy Chief Operations Deputy Chief Administration
*Investigators: Captain 6 investigators 1 fire investigator 1 child abuse investigator
*Street crimes unit: Captain 3 investigators 1 part time data entry officer
*Training and human resources: Lieutenant
*Patrol: 4 patrol sergeants 4 patrol corporals 36 patrol officers which includes: 1 K-9 unit certified EOD/Apprehension/Search/drugs 1 K-9 unit certified drugs 3 K-9 units certified Drugs/Apprehension/Search
*School Resource Officer Program: Sgt. Supervisor/ EOD Commander 16 school resource officers assigned to Sevier County Schools.
*Traffic Enforcement: 1 Corporal Supervisor 2 Officers
*Court Services: 1 Sergeant Supervisor 4 Court/courthouse Officers
*Warrant Officer: 1 Officer assigned to serve executions and garnishments.
*Animal Control: 1 Corporal Supervisor 1 Animal Control Officer
*Clerical Employees: 1 office staff supervisor 3 Clerks 1 part time clerk
*Dispatch Services: 1 Dispatch Supervisor 9 Dispatchers

Sevier County Sheriff’s Office sworn officers are Tennessee P.O.S.T. certified and are required to attend a P.O.S.T. recognized basic police recruit school as well as attending 40 hours in-service training annually
The Sheriff’s Office has a crime scene unit that is manned by investigators trained by the National Forensic Academy at the University of Tennessee.
The Sheriff’s Office has a Meth Lab response unit that is manned by meth lab trained investigative and enforcement personnel.
The Sheriffs Office maintains the response units for the inter agency hazardous response unit that is manned by certified bomb technicians from the Sheriff’s Office, Sevierville P.D, . Pigeon Forge P.D. , and the Gatlinburg P.D.
The Sheriff’s Office has a chaplain’s corps that responds to the needs of sheriff’s office employees and the citizens of Sevier County in times of need.
The Sheriff’s Office animal control officers have attended Training through the National Animal Control Association And have obtained certification as animal control officers.
Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is also a member of the Following: • Fourth Judicial Drug and Violence Task Force • Sevier County E-911 Emergency Communications district • Tennessee Meth Task Force • ROCIC • Tennessee Sheriff’s Association • National Sheriff’s Association
SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CORRECTIONAL SERVICES
The Sheriff’s Office operates two correctional facilities;
Sevier County Jail 137 Commerce Street Sevierville, Tn. 37862
Sevier County Jail was opened June, 1991 with a capacity of 156. The Jail was renovated in2002 which raised the capacity to 214.
Sevier County Minimum Security Facility 896 Old Knoxville Hwy Sevierville, Tn. 37862
Sevier County Minimum Security Facility was opened April 2008 with a capacity of 168. In May 2010 an additional inmate pod that will house 60 additional male inmates will open bringing the facilities capacity at 228 inmates.
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Services consists of the following personnel:
1 Deputy Chief who serves as administrator of both facilities 2 Facility Captains ( one for each facility) 1 Training Lieutenant 1 Sentence Management Officer 8 Corrections Sergeants 56 Corrections Officers 3 Prisoner Transport Officers 6 Food Service Staff
The Medical provider for both correctional facilities has been contracted to First Med of Gatlinburg which provides medical services to both facilities on a 24/7 basis and will include in house dental services, mental health services and on site x ray imaging.
All Sevier County Sheriff’s Office correctional staff are Certified through the Tennessee Corrections Institute and must attend 40 hours of in-service training annually.
ADDITIONALLY:
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office will implement in 2010, The sheriff’s office “SPECIAL OPERATIONS RESPONSE TEAM” (SORT) that will be used during high risk arrests and situations that may arise needing special attention. The team will consist of 2 – 9 man teams with specialized training.
The Sheriff’s Office with the Sevier County Emergency Management Agency opened the Sevier County Special Operations Center (SOC) at the old ambulance service building after renovations that allows a classroom for training and storage for weather sensitive equipment.
GRANTS APPLIED FOR:
DOJ Grant – Byrne Local Solicitation Grant which will be used to continue arming patrol officers with non-lethal TASER technology. Grant will purchase 10 TASER weapons if renewed. Applied for 6/7/11
We invite public comment in regard to these grants. We haveapplied for these funds however, that does not mean we willreceive all or any part of the grants. Approval of all or anypart rests with the Cops Office of Community Policing and Bureau of Justice Assistance.
